5 of the best restaurant dishes I had in 2021

My wife and I found ourselves going out to eat a little more than at the start of the pandemic. I don’t know if it’s because we feel more secure, or if it’s just the fact that shear boredom has attacked us.

Here is a look at 5 of my favorite restaurant dishes that I have had over the past few weeks. As it is 2021, these items can also be ordered and picked up and / or delivered.

1. Taco El Tio Pazole, on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township.

Pazole is a soup that tastes fantastic! It’s a hominy soup in a broth with cabbage, onions, jalapenos and radishes. (Never underestimate the radish!) You can order the soup with pork or chicken, and you can order it with a clear base of red. I prefer red because it is spicier. The pork is great. I actually ordered this for pickup last night and on a cold night it was the perfect meal.

I will say EVERYTHING I have ever had at Taco El Tio has been amazing – and I have eaten or ordered take out there often!

2. Chili from Texas Roadhouse, on the Black Horse Pike to Fire Road in Egg Harbor Township.

Yes, this is a steak restaurant, and the steaks are excellent. I find their chili a bit like a “hidden gem”. This is delicious!

By the way, if you are looking for a great place to eat and don’t want to spend a lot of money, this is the place for you. The last time my wife and I ate there we each had a steak and the bill, even with a few booze, was under $ 45, no tip!

3. Crispy Crab at Crab Trap near the bridge in Somers Point.

Definitely one of the best crab cakes I have ever tasted! Lots of crab, fried (I guess it’s fried) with a slightly crispy exterior. Equally amazing is the sauce it is served with.

I have to admit that the Crab Trap is a restaurant I haven’t been to for many years, but I’m so glad I found my way home. Everything I have tried is wonderful, they know seafood. The lobster bisque is so good – I can taste it now. As for the soups, I also recommend their dill tomato!

By the way, over the past few months I’ve had a few glasses of different white wines at Crab Trap. I don’t know if they keep it cool, if it’s the glass, or what, but the wine there is always better!

4. Thon L’Esparance at Café Offshore Ventura on Shore Road in Northfield.

I have noticed that lately I am ordering different types of food than before. (Maybe I’m trying to eat healthier?) This appetizer, along with their superb French onion soup, can make a great meal for me. Sushi grade tuna with just the perfect amount of spice – ooh, delicious!

Ventura’s is another place where I have always been happy with everything I have ordered.

5. South End Pizza’s California Cobb Wrap on Zion Road in Egg Harbor Township.

Listen, if you live in EHT and you’ve never ordered from South End, you’re definitely missing out! It really is our go-to place to order delivery.

The California Cobb Wrap (minus the olives) is a treat for me. I think it’s also a bit healthy.

Again, South End is another place where, whatever I order, I’m happy. Buffalo chicken pizza is THE BOMB, by the way.

So there you have it, some real food suggestions. If you try any of them let me know how it was!
