STAFF at a restaurant in Winchester served free food to hundreds of people attending the screening of the Queen’s funeral at the cathedral.
The Rimjhim restaurant on City Road in Winchester has set up a pop-up table outside the west door of the church.
Owner M Showquat said: “We are providing food for 500 people in the house in memory of Queen Elizabeth II. She has done a lot for us and I wanted to do something. It was yesterday that I thought I had to do something.”
Food includes chicken and vegetable biriani, pakora fritters, yogurts and juices.
Mr Showquat added: “People are loving it and saying thank you. I feel happy to be doing something for everyone. It’s a small thing for me but it feels good.”
It went well with the people coming out of the cathedral.
Cathedral cantor Andy Trenier tweeted: “A local Bangladeshi restaurant serving food to thousands of mourners and those attending the #[email protected] telecast today. Exactly what we all had need. #Thanks #bestofbritish #Friendship.”
