Get 10% off this San Antonio restaurant’s menu for life if you help keep it going

A local family is holding a barbecue plate sale Friday to raise funds to reopen their Mexican restaurant Tacos Muchachos, located in the far west of the city. According to the family, anyone who purchases a plate will receive 10% off their lifetime menu once it reopens.

Maria Edith Garcia, who is part of the family business, told that the owner of their establishment closed them on August 1 until further notice after falling behind in paying their rent due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We understand that business is business. We are just trying to get out of the rut,” Garcia said. “It’s just tough since it closed, so we want to do everything we can to get back there.”

The local family opened Tacos Muchachos in March 2019 in space at 2804 Quiet Plain Dr., which is tucked away in a neighborhood gas station not far from Marbach Road. Before closing, the restaurant offered its Mexican street food, such as flautas, street tacos and quesadillas, on the curb.

Jose Garza, who is Garcia’s son, said their owner worked with them. However, the family still does not have enough funds to return to their restaurant, he added.

On Friday, the family will be selling barbecue platters from 4 p.m. until food runs out two minutes from their restaurant at a friend’s house, located at 9871 Highland Creek. The $ 10 platters will include barbecue chicken, sausage, potato salad and rice. Beans can be added for an additional $ 2, Garza said.

To pre-order, send a direct message to the family on the Tacos Muchachos social media page – @tacosmuchachos on Instagram and Facebook. Garza said people don’t have to order in advance, but it’s recommended so the family knows how much food to prepare.

The family will likely have more plate sales next week, Garza said.

“We know that we are not going to sell enough in the first plate sale to come back to our space, but we will have as much as possible to reopen Tacos Muchachos,” he said. “We are a small family business and we want this to continue. “
