Onset restaurant makes pizza with garlic knot crust

[ad_1]

Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve finally found the holy grail of pizza and it’s here on the south coast.

Over in Onset (East Wareham) is a quaint little village with a seafront, restaurants and a bandstand. The people residing there are some of the friendliest I have ever met and parking never seems to be a problem. Even when the city is booming with business.

Right on the beachfront is a restaurant called Onset Beach Patio & Grill. I had just finished a show when the director – Frank Evangelista surprised me with one of his chef’s signature pies: an Italian pizza for meat lovers with garlic knots for the crust. You see, Evangelista was born in Brooklyn, raised on Staten Island, and owned several pizzerias, delis, and bagel shops in New York City. So, you could say he knows the ropes when it comes to good food, especially since he learned everything from his mother. Old fashioned Sicilian Italian, no recipes. Everything from scratch.

However, credit for this glorious creation goes to Evangelista pizza maker David Santiago, who credits his ideas to God and can spin two pizza doughs at the same time. Santiago also reigns from New York and has been moved here to the South Coast to join Evangelista’s team.

Not only was it a decent sized pie, but the aroma of the meats and garlic diverted my senses and I couldn’t wait to dive in. Talk about a beautiful marriage of Genoa salami, prosciutto, spiced ham, pepperoni, sausage, mozzarella, parmesan, aged provolone, and a homemade sauce, this pizza was a godsend.

The crust had a crispy bite to it and the cheese was gooey, just the way I like it. As for the crust, it was buttery, flaky and complimented the pizza supremely.

Add in a beautiful sunset, a relaxing breeze from the bay and an ice cold cider from the tap, and you have the perfect Friday to start the weekend. The next move is up to you, you know you want to try it and I’m here to give you the official “Gazelle nod of approval”.
