A sure sign that Thanksgiving is approaching is the proliferation on fast food and cafe menus of “spicy pumpkin” foods and beverages – a phenomenon sparked by the now iconic PSL (spiced pumpkin latte) introduced by Starbucks. in 2003.
But chains also advertise the fall and winter holidays in other ways, rolling out items accented with peppermint, maple, cinnamon, cranberry, and other seasonally appropriate flavors. And it’s also the time of year when chains add hearty cold weather foods to their menus – for example, massive sandwiches, loaded burritos, and extra-cheesy pizzas.
Diners aren’t always limited to official menu items, of course. Here are some secret menu items to order from your favorite channels.
To get a feel for what’s new, a number of well-known channels are putting on their menus this month – sometimes for a limited time, sometimes permanently – 24/7 Tempo has reviewed several recent iterations of the Menu Tracker column. published regularly by News from the nation’s restaurants, a leading national publication on the restaurant business. We’ve chosen recent additions to the menu of some 22 chains, focusing on the best-known nationwide operations. Many types of food (and four drinks) are included. Proteins from chicken, beef, pork and plants appear, as well as a few uncommon ingredients: bison and black truffle.
